OVO Season continues. With “God’s Plan” still reigning over the charts, Drake re-ups with his next single, “Nice for What.”
Over a bouncy beat, produced by Murda Beatz, Blaqnmild, Corey Litwin, and Noah “40” Shebib, the 6 God pays homage to Lauryn Hill with a sample of her Miseducation classic “Ex-Factor.” Last month, Ms. Hill’s son previewed the song on social media.
The hypnotic cut also acts as an empowerment anthem full of affirmations. “That’s a real one in your reflection,” raps Drake. “Without a follow, without a mention / You rarely pipin’ up on these ni**as / You gotta be nice for what to these ni**as?”
To go along with the song, Drake also unleashed a star-studded video. Directed by Karena Evans, the stunning clip features striking portraits of impressive stars, including Tiffany Haddish, Rashida Jones, Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi, Zoe Saldana, and many more.
In between collaborating with N.E.R.D, BlocBoy JB, and Trouble, Drake has been in Toronto recording his fifth studio album, which he says is “for the city.” It will be his first studio album since 2016’s Views.
Meanwhile, he continues to dominate the Billboard charts. “God’s Plan” remains No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 consecutive weeks, while his BlocBoy JB collaboration “Look Alive” is also in the top 10 at No. 6.
