YNW Melly is facing the death penalty in his double murder case.

The 19-year-old Florida rapper was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder on Feb. 13 stemming from the October 2018 shooting of his friends, Anthony Williams (YNW Sakchaser) and Christopher Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy), near Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Cortlen Henry (YNW Bortlen) was also arrested in connection with the killings.

Cops say Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, and Henry shot the men and staged the crime to make it seem like their friends were killed during a drive-by shooting.

Now the State of Florida intends to seek the death penalty against Melly. According to legal documents, obtained by TMZ, the State believes it can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Melly killed his friends for financial gain, the murder was especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel, and he committed homicide in a cold, calculated, and premeditated manner. The State also believes Melly is a criminal gang member.

Williams and Thomas Jr. were shot in the head, torso, and back. Police say Melly and Henry shot up their own car to make it look like a drive-by before taking the victims to the ER, where they were pronounced dead.

The “Murder on My Mind” hitmaker will remain in Broward County jail until a trial date has been set. Earlier this month, it was reported that Melly hired Boosie Badazz’ former lawyer, Jason Roger Williams, to represent him in the double murder trial.
