Wale takes on Ed Sheeran.
Shortly after dropping his Lil Wayne-assisted single “Running Back,” the D.C. spitter remixes the British crooner’s chart-topping hit “Shape of You.”
Folarin adds his own flavor to the infectious pop smash, blending singing and rapping with impressive balance.
“You fine,” he raps. “I just want you to shine / You’ll be out of your mind / Once that anatomy mine / That’ll be that / Won’t let you ever look back.”
Released last month along with “Castle on the Hill,” “Shape of You” helped Sheeran make history as the first artist to debut two singles simultaneously in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Both songs will appear on Sheeran’s upcoming album ÷, which is out March 3.
Wale’s reference to Shine on the remix is yet another sign that his new album is coming soon. Recent videos for “Running Back” and “Groundhog Day” also indicate the project is on the way. Shine marks Wale’s fifth studio album and his first since 2015’s The Album About Nothing.
