Despite unloading several iterations of the project, Travis Scott’s DAYS BEFORE RODEO was unable to secure the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Today (Sept. 3), the publication announced that Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet claimed the throne instead.
Her sixth studio album moved 362,000 album-equivalent units stateside, edging out Scott’s re-released 2014 project by just over a thousand in sales. Still, the Houston native pulled off 2024’s fourth-largest debut. Of his 361,000 total, 300,000 of them consisted of digital downloads, with another 30,000 coming from streaming equivalent album units.
Scott’s DAYS BEFORE RODEO was uploaded to streaming services to mark its 10th anniversary. The 12-song offering came along with “Drugs You Should Try It,” “Mamacita” featuring Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan, and “Skyfall.” Big Sean, Migos, Peewee Longway and more also lent their talents to the mixtape.
In what seemed like a last-ditch effort to boost sales, Scott dropped five additional versions of the project days after its original re-release. Among them were a chopped and screwed rendition and one filled with live cuts from his Atlanta show. The three deluxe editions included tracks like the Playboi Carti-assisted “Houdini”, “Too Many Options” with Young Thug and “Hold On,” to name a few.
As Rap-Up previously reported, Nicki Minaj appeared to side with Carpenter in the race to No. 1. In response to the “Please Please Please” artist’s “This one’s for Nicki” tweet, she reciprocated the love on Instagram Live. “Shout out to Sabrina Carpenter. Shout out to all the Sabrina Carpenter fans,” the New York rapper told her supporters.
Even though Scott didn’t take home the glorious victory many were expecting, he did score another legal win after his second of two Miami Beach charges were dropped on Aug. 31. He was originally taken into police custody for trespassing and disorderly intoxication.
