Playboi Carti fans have been anxiously anticipating his next project, and on Sunday (Sept. 1), he might have hinted that the wait is almost over. The rapper posted photos of himself wearing a Penny Hardaway Orlando Magic jersey on the Instagram account for his clothing line, Opium.
“I MIGHT F**K [A] POP B**CH [AND] PASS HER [TO THE] BRODIE,” the caption read. Underneath the carousel, several of the “Fell in Luv” artist’s affiliates — including photographer Gunner Stahl — commented, “Money on top of money.”
Orlando Magic reposted Carti’s picture on Twitter, telling him to “drop the album.” Meanwhile, Timberland wrote “ALBUM READY” on its Instagram Story.
Especially as of late, Carti has seemingly been working on everyone’s project but his own. In February, he reunited with Ye for “CARNIVAL.” The record, which also boasted contributions from Ty Dolla Sign and Rich The Kid, landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Fast forward to the next month, the self-coined King Vamp lent his voice to Future and Metro Boomin’s “Type S**t” from WE DON’T TRUST YOU. The song also featured Travis Scott, whom he worked with on 2023’s “FE!N.” Elsewhere, Carti did an alt-pop crossover with Camila Cabello for her “I LUV IT.”
“That’s where rap is. I knew that’s what it was going to be. What do people expect? We [are] not just signing people to be signing people. We want to be the best of the best, and that’s all it is, and his s**t speaks for itself,” ASAP Rocky told Billboard when asked if the Whole Lotta Red rapper is the future of rap.
