Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter VI is complete, he confirmed on Wednesday (Sept. 4) morning. Live from the studio, the rapper hopped on Instagram to greet his followers and share that another installment in the series is already in the works.
“Just finished working on a couple of features. I would tell y’all who it is, but you know I wouldn’t do that and f**k it up. Shout out to those artists [and my] family,” the New Orleans native shared. “Just wanted to say, ‘Good morning, and how the f**k are you doing?’ If you’re not up, you’re down. And if you’re down, I’m here to pick you up.”
The Young Money artist followed up with a bombshell: “I’m working on Tha Carter VI. I just wanted you to know that. Honestly, I’m finished. I was lying. We’re working on Tha Carter 26. I think you already know that.”
In 2023, Lil Wayne debuted Tha Fix Before Tha VI (Bonus). Spanning 11 songs, it included features from the late DMX on “Kant Nobody,” Jon Batiste, euro, Cool & Dre and Fousheé. Among the standout cuts were “Kat Food” and “To The Bank.” The project served as the follow-up to 2018’s Tha Carter V.
“Mona Lisa” featuring Kendrick Lamar, “Let It All Work Out” and “Don’t Cry” with XXXTENTACION were included on the aforementioned album, which got a deluxe edition roughly two years later.
Though Lil Wayne didn’t confirm whether he will be dropping more new music in 2024, he did announce the seventh annual Lil’ Weezyana Fest on Tuesday (Sept. 3). The rap legend will be reuniting with Hot Boys, and Rob49 along with other surprise guests are slated to the stage.
“Lil Wayne embodies the spirit of New Orleans, and Lil Weezyana Fest is a stellar showcase of the city’s dynamic and flourishing music scene,” Live Nation Urban’s Brandon Pankey shared. “Live Nation Urban celebrates this amazing event and is proud to continue to partner and cultivate the growth of this festival for years to come.”
