Though the project didn’t hit streaming services at midnight like most expected, Kehlani’s While We Wait 2 finally arrived on Wednesday (Aug. 28) afternoon.
The 14-song set kicked off with “Love Like” and “When He’s Not There,” the latter of which served as a pre-release single. Other surefire cuts included “Border,” “Form of You” featuring childofnines and DESTIN CONRAD, and the artist’s declaration of independence, “S.I.N.G.L.E.”
Vince Staples, Lil’ Mo, DIXSON, FLO, Lucky Daye, LUDMILLA, and kwn served as the LP’s additional guest appearances. Meanwhile, production was handled by the likes of previous collaborators Ant Clemons and Scribz Riley, to mention a few.
Kehlani spoke about the process of creating While We Wait 2 via Instagram. They said, “We made this tape in my back house in two weeks with all [the] people I really dearly love. Thank you to all the features, my friends who sat up and wrote with me, my engineer, and my team. It was a breezy process, and nobody thought hard. Just some feelings in 90-degree weather.”
The mixtape not only marked a follow-up to 2019’s effort of the same name but also served as their second full-length release in 2024. In June, the Bay Area native unveiled CRASH.
Later in the year, Kehlani is set to embark on their “CRASH WORLD TOUR” with supporting acts Anycia and FLO. The first show will take place at The Armory in Minneapolis on Sept. 4, followed by performances in Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Los Angeles, among other cities. They’ll wrap up in San Francisco on Nov. 2, with the European and U.K. leg expected to be shared at a later date.
The musician also cleared up questions about skipping major stops, specifically in the DMV and Philadelphia. “Fairfax, VA [is] for those asking about D.C./Maryland. Camden [is] for those asking about Philly,” they explained in the trek’s initial announcement. “Y’all know I’m not in charge of this, right?”
