Coi Leray’s family feud is playing out on social media.
While promoting her debut album Trendsetter on “The Breakfast Club,” the “Blick Blick” rapper claimed that her father Benzino, former co-owner of The Source, became “broke” after he was ousted from the famed hip-hop magazine. As a result, she and her family struggled financially.
“My dad lost The Source when I was like nine,” she said. “Once it was gone, I was old enough to understand life and it was gone after that. Reality hit, we were broke, and we were figuring things out.”
After the interview aired, Benzino was reportedly not happy that his daughter tried to expose him. In a series of tweets, Coi called her dad “bitter and evil” and alleged that he threatened her and her mother.
“My dad is texting my mom threatening her and me because I said he went broke on the breakfast club on the day of my album release,” she tweeted Wednesday.
She pleaded that he gets help. “I hate to bring this shit to social media but my father need help,” she continued. “Sorry if I offended you on breakfast club but don’t treatment me or my mom because you hate to admit that we went broke after the source.”
Coi has tried to distance herself from her dad because she feels that he is damaging her career. “Build a fu**ing bridge and get over it that’s why I don’t even like mentioning his name,” she said. “That’s why I never mentioned his name coming into this industry cause he can’t get over his past and don’t even realize how much he damaging when he does this stuff.”
According to Coi, Benzino has not been a supportive father and tried to get her mother to do reality television against her wishes. “He texting my mom threatening her talking about some watch. Grow up YOU WAS JUST TRYNA GET HER TO DO GROWING UP HIP HOP !! WE DONT WANT THAT LIFE !!!! She’s tryna be here for me and support me while you tryna find every way to beef with me and suck the life out of me I’m tired.”
She ended with an emotional message to her dad. “I’m your only fu**ing daughter. You worried about being called broke on the day of my debut album. You ain’t even text me congratulations, you so bitter and evil. Ima pray for you.”
Despite the family drama, Coi is trying not to let it ruin the moment she’s worked so hard for. Tonight, she is set to release her debut album Trendsetter featuring Nicki Minaj, H.E.R., Yung Bleu, Fivio Foreign, Nav, Polo G, and more.
