Drake is paying tribute to Virgil Abloh with a new tattoo.
The tat, which appears on Drake’s left forearm, features the late fashion designer as he flies a kite into the sky. L.A.-based tattoo artist Joaquin Ganga shared Drake’s new ink, which was inspired by an iconic photo of Abloh flying a Louis Vuitton kite on the catwalk at the gates of the Palais-Royal in Paris.
“A remembrance of the great Virgil Abloh done on Drake,” Ganga captioned the photo.
The Louis Vuitton creative director and Off-White founder died on Nov. 28 after a two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. He was 41.
In the wake of his passing, Drake took to Instagram to honor his friend, who designed his private 767 jet and his Patek Philippe Nautilus watch. “My plan is to touch the sky 1000 more times for you,” he wrote in his tribute. “Love you eternally brother. Thank you for everything.”
Drake also took a moment to acknowledge Abloh during Kanye West’s “Free Larry Hoover” concert earlier this month. While performing “Life Is Good,” he replayed the lyrics, “Virgil got a Patek.”
This is the latest tattoo for Drake, who also has portraits of Aaliyah, Sade, Denzel Washington, and his son Adonis.
