The R&B community is mourning the loss of Emani 22.

The singer, born Emani Johnson, has died at age 22, according to producer J Maine.

“Emani 22 was a wonderful individual that literally brightened up any room she was in,” Maine told PEOPLE in a statement.

“It hurts so bad to know that the last time I saw her was the last time I’d ever see her again. I considered her to be like a little sister to me. She will be missed and never forgotten, and I’ll always think about the great times we had hanging out.”

Bhad Bhabie also penned a touching tribute to her friend. “This doesn’t even feel real,” she wrote alongside a photo of them side by side. “I used to spend almost everyday with you. You taught me so many things. You are my inspiration for many things (hair, nails, style, etc) my big sister. I’m gonna miss you so much.”

Emani’s cause of death is unknown at this time. In 2020, Emani released her EP The Color Red featuring “Feelings,” her most-streamed song on Spotify. She also collaborated with Trippie Redd twice on his 2018 project A Love Letter to You 3.

Fans took to social media to mourn the devastating loss. “Rest in heaven babygirl,” wrote one, while another added, “i can’t believe this is real. rest in peace angel.”
