Cardi B is coming to Lizzo’s defense.
Just days after releasing their new collaboration “Rumors,” Lizzo faced some criticism on social media. While on Instagram Live, an emotional Lizzo broke down in tears while addressing the “people who have something mean to say about you.” While she has learned to ignore the negativity, she admits that even she is not immune to the hate.
“For the most part, it doesn’t hurt my feelings. I don’t care,” she said while wiping away tears in her bathroom. “I just think when I’m working this hard, my tolerance gets lower, my patience is lower, I’m more sensitive and it gets to me.”
She received encouraging messages from her fans and friends including Cardi B. Taking to Twitter, Cardi spoke up on behalf of her collaborator and friend.
“When you stand up for yourself they claim your problematic & sensitive. When you don’t they tear you apart until you crying like this,” she wrote. “Whether you skinny, big, plastic, they going to always try to put their insecurities on you.”
Added Cardi, “Remember these are nerds looking at the popular table.”
A grateful Lizzo thanked Cardi for her support. “Thank you @iamcardib — you’re such a champion for all people. Love you so much,” she tweeted.
In a recent interview with Apple Music, Lizzo celebrated Cardi for her authenticity. “Cardi B is the ultimate. She, to me, has always done it right. Everything that she said, every way that she’s reacted because you know why? It’s because she was true to herself the whole time,” she said.
“She’s a ground breaker. You can’t deny her ability. She’s a superstar. She has changed the game forever for a lot of us, a lot of women. I don’t even think she realizes she’s doing it because it’s just like, I’m trying to just be successful. I’m trying to get this money. I want to live a happy life. She just follows her heart. That’s what I love about her.”
