The Weeknd’s new music video hasn’t even premiered, but it’s already causing concern.
The XO superstar had hoped to surprise fans by debuting the clip for “Take My Breath” during IMAX screenings of The Suicide Squad, which hits theaters on Thursday night.
According to TMZ, executives at IMAX decided to pull the video because they felt the light and strobe effects would be potentially dangerous to those watching with epilepsy and could trigger seizures.
However, fans will still be able to watch the video when it premieres on YouTube and other platforms this Friday. The Weeknd has been teasing stills from the clip on social media, and the song can be heard in a promo for the Tokyo Olympics.
“Take My Breath” is the first release from The Weeknd’s upcoming album. “It’s the album I’ve always wanted to make,” he told GQ of the follow-up to 2020’s After Hours.
