The Marathon continues.
Maroon 5 enlists Nipsey Hussle and YG for the remix to “Memories” off the group’s new album Jordi.
YG pays tribute to lost friends with a somber verse. “Got some homies in heaven now that watch my back,” he raps. “For all this pain, we numb it with champagne / 100 bottles in the club, that’s a goddamn shame.”
His late friend, Nip, also reflects on the losses in his life on his posthumous verse. “I done lost too, relationships you could call true / You hit me up I’m gon’ fall through,” raps the Crenshaw legend. “Telling lies to sound true like it’s all you / Burn in love, wasn’t perfect / That’s what God do.”
Juice WRLD is also featured on Maroon 5’s album (“Can’t Leave You Alone”), along with Megan Thee Stallion and H.E.R.
Speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, frontman Adam Levine explained that the band went back and forth before ultimately deciding to include the late rappers on the album.
“When it comes to things like the Juice thing and the Nipsey thing, we thought a lot about that,” he said. “We deliberated over a period of months, if not even years in certain cases, to make sure that we just did it. I mean, the Juice thing seemed like it just happened yesterday and we recorded the song and I never even got to meet him. And that makes me really sad, just knowing how incredible that would have been.”
