NLE Choppa says he was set up.
The 18-year-old rapper was arrested on multiple charges on Sunday (March 28) including burglary of an unoccupied structure, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of cannabis of 20 grams or less, and possession of the generic version of Xanax called Alprazolam.
Following his release from Broward County Jail on $4,500 bond, he returned to Twitter to address the charges while insisting that he was framed.
“To begin when you start changing lives around you and began to stand for something deep in your purpose you become a target to a certain group of people and also the devil,” he tweeted Thursday. “During this arrest I was setup, substances were planted on me that I don’t consume/use/own, my name was lied upon, and I was even mistreated in the process.”
Choppa, who has often promoted his clean lifestyle, also called out the media for trying to disparage his name. “Every media outlet, news channel, and etc covered this story to paint a picture on a new surface I’ve been working so hard to create,” he said before vowing to be exonerated.
“This case will be beat and I will walk a free man, remember it’s innocent until proven guilty not guilty until proven innocent. Asking my supporters to stand firm with me and allow God to do his work. Thank you and love y’all dearly.”
While he fights to clear his name, Choppa is capitalizing off the drama by releasing a collection of T-shirts and hoodies featuring his mug shot as well as a new freestyle, “Beat Box (First Day Out),” which has nearly 1 million YouTube views.
