Lil Nas X is dancing with the devil.
On the heels of his controversial video for “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” the rapper is launching a pair of demonic Nikes dubbed “Satan Shoes.”
He collaborated with MSCHF to customize the Air Max 97. Each pair is individually numbered in red embroidery and contains 66 CCs of red ink, as well as one drop of human blood. Only 666 pairs will be made and will cost $1,018 when they go on sale Monday, March 29.
Bible scripture Luke 10:18 is printed on the side, which refers to Satan’s banishment from heaven. There are also upside-down crosses and a pentagram attached to the laces. The shoes come in a black and red box that features more demonic imagery and scripture.
“Y’all gotta admit… the shoes hard! u cannot sit here and lie,” tweeted Nas.
Nas’ “Satan Shoes” were inspired by his video for “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” which finds him descending into hell on a stripper pole and giving Satan a lap dance.
Both the video and sneakers are stirring controversy. Former NBA star Nick Young aka Swaggy P announced that he will no longer allow his kids to listen to “Old Town Road” and may even consider a Nike boycott, even though the shoe is not an official Nike release.
“My kids will never play Old Town road again,” tweeted Young. “I’m still debating about wearing @Nike after this come nike a drop of blood for real.”
