Fresh off his collaboration with Jhené Aiko, Phora links with Kehlani on his latest single “Cupid’s Curse.”
The two go from breakup to makeup on the enchanting duet. “I ain’t never seen you before, where’d you come from / I ain’t never met you / Looking back, we were one / Now I can’t fu**ing stand you,” sings Kehlani.
Taking to Instagram, Phora explained why the song has such “deep and personal” significance. “It’s a song that really ties together a big part of my past and the pain that came with it,” he explained. “Sometimes love is a curse. This song will tell you all about that from two entirely different perspectives; and me and Kehlani go back and forth and tell that story in such a real way.”
He also gushed over his collaborator. “Kehlani is one of my favorite artists and it’s been crazy watching her grow over the years,” said Phora. “Watching her work in the studio was unreal and I’m so blessed to have her be a part of this beautiful song.”
“Cupid’s Curse” follows “Stars in the Sky” with Jhené. Both tracks are expected to appear on Phora’s upcoming album With Love 2.
Kehlani, who stars alongside Bryson Tiller in the romantic video for “Always Forever,” can also be heard on “Universe” off Ty Dolla $ign’s new album Featuring Ty Dolla $ign.
