21 Savage and Metro Boomin are back in Savage Mode.
Four years since dropping the original, the rapper and mega-producer have officially announced Savage Mode 2. The sequel to their 2016 album will hit digital retailers on Friday, Oct. 2.
They made the big announcement in a bloody trailer narrated by Morgan Freeman and directed by Gibson Hazard. “So to be in Savage Mode is to go hard, not allowing anything to stop or deter you from your mission,” says the Oscar-winning actor. “Basically, this means when someone is in Savage Mode, they’re not to be fu**ed with.”
Anticipation for the long-rumored project has been building. Earlier this month, fans launched a Change.org petition for the album, which garnered over 8,000 signatures before it ended.
The original Savage Mode was released in 2016 and was certified gold, spawning a pair of platinum hits, “No Heart” and “X” featuring Future. During his L.A. tour stop in July 2019, 21 Savage confirmed that a sequel was on the way.
In advance of Friday’s release, 21 Savage and Metro Boomin have launched a merch store with items including clothing, masks, and a 200-page coffee table book.
