Juelz Santana is a free man.
The Harlem rapper was released from prison on Wednesday after serving 20 months behind bars. Wearing a mask and a “Free Santana” T-shirt and hat, he shared a selfie and celebrated his homecoming on Instagram.
“Free at last #ImBack #SantanaFree,” he captioned the photos, including one with his young son Santana James, who was born while he was in prison.
His family including wife Kimbella and their three kids greeted him upon his release. “I missed my family.. GOD is good!!!” Santana wrote in another post.
Santana had been in prison since December 2018 and was scheduled to be released next February. However, his wife and legal counsel pushed for an early release due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to Kimbella, Juelz was supposed to be released last Tuesday, but “some shit happened.”
The Diplomats rapper was arrested in March 2018 after a .38-caliber handgun and eight oxycodone pills were discovered in his carry-on luggage during an X-ray screening at Newark International Airport. Santana, who has previous felony convictions, pled guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled dangerous substance and was sentenced to 27 months behind bars for attempting to bring a loaded gun on a flight.
The rapper, 38, will be under supervised release for 12 months following his prison release.
In March, he dropped his #FREESANTANA mixtape featuring Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Dave East, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Jeremih.
