Dawn Richard is making major moves.
The multi-faceted entertainer has teamed up with Adult Swim for a new creative project that will spotlight diverse artists on Adult Swim’s online and linear platforms. As the first Black artist to serve as creative consultant for the channel, DAWN will create opportunities for other Black creatives.
“It’s been a long-term mission of mine to push down barriers and break ceilings for voices that are often unheard or overlooked. I’ve loved working with Adult Swim over the last five years and I really wanted to do more than just use the platform for myself,” said Richard. “I want to give other Black creatives the chance to shine and see more of us in this space. The time is now to push for change.”
As part of the ongoing collaboration, DAWN will discover new Black animators and artists to create Adult Swim IDs, music videos, social content, and pitch new series.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Dawn for several years now, and whether she’s on stage, directing, animating, dancing, designing or anything else, she has always blown us away,” said Jason DeMarco, SVP & Creative Director for On-Air for Adult Swim. “I’m thrilled she’ll be helping us find more Black talent and continuing to add her voice to Adult Swim’s creative world.”
DAWN previously released music through Adult Swim’s Singles program and performed live at the Adult Swim Festival.
The singer also continues to work on new music. In March, she reunited with her Danity Kane bandmate Aubrey O’Day to release a series of singles including “New Kings,” “Boy Down,” and “Fly.”
