After stirring controversy with his comments about Kendrick Lamar, French Montana is facing more scrutiny.

During an interview with “Everyday Struggle,” the Bronx rapper boasted about his talent as a hitmaker, claiming that his 2017 single “Unforgettable” wouldn’t have been a hit without him. “I have one of the best A&R ears,” he said. “Do you think ‘Unforgettable’ came to me like that before it went out? It was nothing like that before it went out. It didn’t have no structure. I had to sit there like a scientist and put it together.”

His “Unforgettable” collaborator Swae Lee, who is credited as a songwriter, seemingly took issue with his claims, writing “cap” in the comments section.

French responded to Swae by downplaying any beef and celebrating their success together. “I LOVE SWAE LEE,” he said. “LETS STAY POSITIVE RAMADAN MUBARAK NEXT TIME COME GET ME FOR UNFORGETTABLE PART 2 !”

He also joked about having a pet monkey before his collaborator. “AND I HAD A MONKEY BEFORE YOU 😂🐒 WHO HAD THE MONKEY FIRST ? 🤣 LETS BEEF ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE NOT UNFORGETTABLE WE WON.”

According to HipHopDX, Indianapolis-based trio 1Mind produced the original “Unforgettable” beat with the intention of placing it on Drake’s Views. But it eventually made its way to French after the Canadian rapper passed on it.

“Unforgettable,” which appeared on 2017’s Jungle Rules, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming French’s highest-charting song to date. According to French, the song is 1 million units away from being certified diamond.

Last week, French caused an uproar for saying that he “might outshine” Kendrick Lamar in a battle because he has “more hits” than the Compton MC. Many took issue with his comments, including Young Thug, who called him a “fool.”
