6ix9ine wants out.
The embattled rapper wants to be sprung from prison due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to TMZ, 6ix9ine’s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, wrote a letter to the judge on Sunday requesting for his release by citing serious concerns for Tekashi’s health. Lazzaro says Tekashi is in danger of catching coronavirus behind bars, which could be even more serious because of his asthma.
Lazzaro also reveals Tekashi was diagnosed with bronchitis and sinusitis late last year and was hospitalized for treatment. According to Lazzaro, Tekashi has recently had shortness of breath, but hasn’t been allowed to see a doctor in prison.
6ix9ine is nearing the end of his 24-month sentence. He is set to be released on Aug. 2, but Lazzaro says he is at risk and shouldn’t be locked up any longer with his life on the line.
The coronavirus can spread quickly in crowded correctional facilities. Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein, who was sentenced to 23 years in prison, recently tested positive for COVID-19. According to officials, he was likely carrying the virus when he was transferred from Rikers Island to New York’s Wende Correctional Facility. The 68-year-old movie mogul is currently in isolation at the maximum-security prison.
Meanwhile, Tekashi continues to face several legal battles. He has been hit with a $2.5 million lawsuit by Fashion Nova. A woman who was injured during his 2018 shooting has also sued the rapper for $150 million.
