Summer Walker surprises.
The R&B sensation brought her “First and Last Tour” to The Novo in Los Angeles on Friday night with some surprise guests including Usher and Jhené Aiko.
Dressed in lacy black lingerie, the 23-year-old singer opened with the title track from her record-setting debut album Over It before continuing with “Body.” Joined by two scantily-clad dancers, who showed off their flexibility on the stripper poles, Summer performed the standout “I’ll Kill You” before Jhené Aiko joined her on stage for the first live performance of the track.
“The funny thing is, y’all don’t know how long I’ve been listening to her music, so this is just crazy,” Summer gushed as Jhené exited.
The surprises continued when Usher literally came through to perform their collaboration “Come Thru,” which samples his 1997 hit “You Make Me Wanna.” The crowd erupted with cheers as he delivered his verse alongside an anxious Walker.
“I’m so grateful for the surprises tonight,” she said.
At one point, Walker opened up about her anxiety. “If anybody in here has social anxiety, I just wanna let you know that shit is real, but don’t let it stop the bag,” she said. “Don’t let it stop anything that you wanna do.”
Then it was time to turn up. “Is anybody in here ratchet?” asked Summer before inviting two fans on stage to “shake they ass” on the poles.
She continued with her platinum hit “Girls Need Love” before closing with her current single “Playing Games” with surprise cameos from Young Thug and Summer’s boyfriend London On Da Track.
Summer Walker’s “First and Last Tour” runs through Dec. 22 in Atlanta.
