Lizzo makes chart history.
The rapper earns a seventh week atop the Billboard Hot 100 with “Truth Hurts.” The Cuz I Love You single ties Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX for longest-running No. 1 for a rap song by a female artist.
“Truth” first topped the Hot 100 in early September and spent six consecutive weeks at No. 1 before dropping to No. 2 when it was dethroned by Travis Scott’s “Highest in the Room,” which slides to No. 6 in its second week on the chart.
“Truth Hurts” is the first rap No. 1 on the Hot 100 for an unaccompanied female since Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” which spent three weeks on top in Oct. 2017. Lizzo becomes the sixth female rapper to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 following Ms. Lauryn Hill (“Doo Wop (That Thing)”), Lil’ Kim (“Lady Marmalade”), Shawnna (“Stand Up”), Iggy Azalea (“Fancy”), and Cardi B (“Bodak Yellow”).
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Lizzo celebrated the historic milestone. “We… Are… Officially…. Tied w/ Fancy for longest female rap #1,” she wrote. “Thank you to everyone who streamed and guess what??? IF WE GET ONE MORE WEEK TRUTH HURTS WILL BE THE LONGEST RUNNING FEMALE RAP #1 OF ALL TIME.”
Her follow-up single “Good as Hell,” which originally appeared on her 2016 EP Coconut Oil, moves up four spots to No. 20 on the Hot 100.
Elsewhere, Post Malone’s “Circles” rises 6-4, while Chris Brown’s “No Guidance” featuring Drake jumps 7-5. Lil Tecca’s “Ran$om” moves 8-7 and Lil Nas X’s “Panini” climbs 10-9.
The top 10 also sees a new entry from Juice WRLD and YoungBoy Never Broke Again, whose collaboration “Bandit” rises 11-10 in its second week. It marks Juice WRLD’s second top 10 and NBA YoungBoy’s first.
