The wait is not over yet.
The weekend came and went without Jesus Is King. Kanye West’s highly-anticipated ninth album was originally set to drop Friday, but was pushed back. Kim Kardashian then announced that it would arrive Sunday because Kanye was making a “few final tweaks to the mixes.” But fans are still patiently waiting its release.
Now TMZ reports that Jesus Is King has been pushed back again because Kanye is still working on it. The project is complete, but Ye keeps tweaking it. Each time he listens, he decides he wants to change something. There is currently no release date. It is considered “TBD” and could drop at anytime.
Kanye gave fans a first listen to Jesus Is King during his “Jesus Is King: A Kanye West Experience” in Detroit, Chicago, and New York over the weekend. The album contains 10 tracks with religious-themed titles including “Follow God,” “On God,” “Selah,” and “Use This Gospel” featuring Clipse and Kenny G. While Kim tweeted that the Nicki Minaj-assisted “New Body” would be included, it has apparently been cut from the final tracklisting.
During the Chicago listening, Kanye reportedly announced that he is done making secular music. “Only Gospel from here on out,” tweeted Andrew Barber of Fakeshore Drive.
He also previewed his new IMAX film of the same name, which brings Sunday Service to life and was shot in the summer of 2019 at Roden Crater, James Turrell’s installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert. The movie will premiere in IMAX theaters worldwide on Friday, Oct. 25.
