Lil Nas X is not worried about Dave East’s opinion.
During an interview with the “Zach Sang Show,” the trap-country rapper brushed off the Harlem rapper’s criticism of his hit single “Old Town Road,” which is No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a third week.
“I honestly have got this question so many [times]…it’s like I have the No. 1 song in the country, I do not give a fuck about what Dave East is saying,” said Lil Nas X.
On Wednesday (April 17), East went on an Instagram Live and shared his opinion of the genre-bending song, which has also spawned a remix with Billy Ray Cyrus.
“That fuckin’ ‘Old Town Road’ shit is fucking wack,” said East. “I don’t know what the fuck is going on with hip-hop, with rap, but I ain’t no hater, man, but that shit is wack with a cape on it. It’s super wack!”
“Old Town Road” has broken the record for largest single streaming week ever with 143 million U.S. streams, surpassing the previous record set by Drake, whose “In My Feelings” drew 116.2 million streams.
“It’s insane,” Lil Nas X said of his record-breaking feat. “Drake…who’s been in the game for so long and you know made huge records. It’s insane.”
A remix with Young Thug is on the way, while Lil Nas X recently shot a video for the Billy Ray Cyrus remix.
