Avril Lavigne and Nicki Minaj join forces on their empowering anthem “Dumb Blonde.”
Over the rattling drumline, the bombshells raise hell. “I ain’t no dumb blonde / I ain’t no stupid Barbie doll / I got my game on / Watch me prove you wrong,” sings Avril, while the Queen calls out the haters and frauds on her spitfire verse.
“All the hatin’ you was doing got the Barbie poppin’ / Now all of them wanna be a Barbie, I’m watchin’,” raps Nicki. “I am the prototype, The Pinkprint / No, I don’t want no frauds, wink wink.”
Taking to social media, she reflected on growing up listening to Avril’s music. “I used to drive to my job @ Red Lobster playing this woman’s album for an hour straight everyday for months,” said Nicki, who shared her favorite tracks including “I’m With You” and “Sk8er Boi.” “This woman is so unbelievably talented.”
The Canadian songstress returned the compliment. “Nicki is such a talented, strong woman and driving force,” she said. “I listen to Fly, Starships and Bed all the time. Having her on the song is so special to me. We wrote Dumb Blonde as an anthem for anyone who has been stereotyped or talked down to. Keep your confidence up and don’t let anyone tell you how to be.”
“Dumb Blonde” is the latest single off Avril’s upcoming album Head Above Water, due Friday (Feb. 15).
