Over 20 years after “The Boy Is Mine” topped the charts, Sevyn Streeter and Justine Skye teamed up for a live rendition of Brandy and Monica’s classic.

While performing at the 2019 Trumpet Awards in Atlanta on Saturday (Jan. 19), the R&B starlets paid tribute to the song’s producer, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. Sevyn took on Brandy’s part, while Justine channeled Monica. They strut across the stage while exchanging sassy verses on the 1998 duet, which spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“This was mad fun!” said Justine, who also performed Monica’s “Angel of Mine.” “Thank you @trumpetawards for having me be apart of the tribute to the lej @rodneyjerkins.”

Jerkins, who has also crafted hits for Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Toni Braxton, received the Music Excellence Award during Saturday’s ceremony, which will air Feb. 11 on Bounce TV. Other honorees included T.I., MC Lyte, and Dapper Dan.

Justine, whose single “Build” was released in October, is now working on a follow-up to 2017’s Ultraviolet, while Sevyn’s new album, Drunken Wordz x Sober Thoughtz, is due later this year.
