The Weeknd is headed to the big screen.
The XO crooner was spotted on set of the upcoming Adam Sandler movie Uncut Gems in New York City on Monday (Oct. 15). According to Page Six, he shot performance scenes with Sandler and Trinidad James at nightclub 1OAK in the Meatpacking district.
It’s unclear how big his role is in the film, or whether he will be playing himself or a character. “They’re filming there and took over for several days,” says a source. “They’re shooting a club scene.”
Directed by Josh and Benny Safdie and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, the crime drama focuses on Sandler’s character, a jewelry store owner who has a gambling addiction and needs to find a way to pay off his debts.
Shooting for the film, which co-stars Idina Menzel, Lakeith Stanfield, and Judd Hirsch, began two weeks ago.
This marks The Weeknd’s first feature film role. He was nominated for an Oscar in 2016 for his Fifty Shades of Grey song “Earned It.”
