Nicki Minaj’s new album Queen is out now, but there’s one song in particular song that has everyone talking.
Inspired by The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die classic “Just Playing (Dreams),” “Barbie Dreams” finds Nicki lightheartedly rapping about sex with her rap peers including Drake, 50 Cent, and her ex Meek Mill.
“Shout out to The Notorious B.I.G., R.I.P.,” Nicki said during her Queens Radio show on Beats 1. “You are still inspiring rappers every day.”
On the tongue-in-cheek track, Nicki references 50 Cent and his show “Power.” “I tried to f**k 50 for a powerful hour, but all that ni**a wanna do is talk ‘Power’ for hours,” raps Nicki.
50 responded with flattery. “South Side stand up the bitch @nickiminaj is really a problem. Out here killing shit,” he tweeted.
Her Young Money brother Drake also inspired a verse. “Drake worth a hundred milli / Always buying me shit / But I don’t know if the pussy wet or if he cryin’ and shit.”
Quavo also makes it into Nicki’s dreams. “Somebody go and make sure Karrueche OK though / I heard she think I’m tryna give the coochie to Quavo.”
She even shouts out her ex Meek Mill. “Meek still be in my DMs, I be havin’ to duck him / I used to pray for times like this / Face ass when I f**k him.”
But she wasn’t as kind to DJ Khaled, rapping about his preference in the bedroom. “Had to cancel DJ Khaled, boy, we ain’t speakin’ / Ain’t no fat ni**a tellin’ me what he ain’t eatin’.”
She goes on to name check Future, 6ix9ine, Lil Uzi Vert, and Young Thug (“Used to fuck with Young Thug / I ain’t addressing this shit / Caught him in my dressing room stealing dresses and shit”).
She also has some fun at Desiigner’s expense. “Shout out Desiigner ’cause he made it out of special ed,” raps Nicki. But the rapper was a good sport about it. “You Crazy,” he wrote along with the laughing and heart emojis.
Despite the controversial lyrics, Nicki made it clear: “Barbie Dreams” is not a diss. “You guys know that that’s not a diss?” she said. “I love them and I said things about people who can take a joke and won’t be emotional about it.”
