It’s Met Monday!
As the fashion world descends upon New York for the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit Gala, all eyes are on Rihanna. The star of the upcoming Ocean’s 8 is co-hosting fashion’s biggest event, along with Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace.
The style icon brings her A-game every year, whether she’s glowing in gold (2015) or suiting up in Dolce & Gabbana (2009). And she’s sure to shut down the carpet once again this year.
So, before Bad Gal takes over the Met Gala this evening for this year’s theme of “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” Rap-Up revisits some of her most stunning looks throughout the years.

2007: Poiret: King of Fashion
Back in 2007, Rihanna attended her first Met Gala ever. To make her grand entrance, RiRi wore an elegant Georges Chakra white gown, low cut, and studded for a shimmering look around her neck and cleavage. The Good Girl Gone Bad also showed off her rebellious spirit with black fishnet gloves.
2009: The Model As Muse
By 2009, Rihanna was continuing her Good Girl Gone Bad success with Rated R. This year, she attended the lauded event with Honorary Chair Marc Jacobs in a lovely Dolce & Gabbana black tuxedo, white shirt, and black bowtie, to go with her black leather gloves.
2011: Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty
Didn’t they tell you that she was a savage? In 2011, while prepping to release Loud, Rihanna showed up to the Met Gala in a gorgeous and sheer black Stella McCartney gown. She also mixed things up with glowing red hair, which would appear on the Loud artwork.
2012: Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations
Rihanna was gearing up to release her sixth album Talk That Talk in 2011. But before doing so, she popped up at the Met Gala in a body-hugging reptile print Tom Ford dress. Accentuated by black nail polish, she was truly Unapologetic.
2014: Charles James: Beyond Fashion
Bad Gal hadn’t released a new album since 2012’s Unapologetic and she wouldn’t release a new one until 2016’s ANTI. But she still showed up and showed out at the Met Gala this year, wearing an all-white two-piece Stella McCartney gown, baring her midriff and showing off just a few of her tattoos.
2015: China: Through The Looking Glass
In 2015, Rihanna debuted one of her most iconic looks yet, a yellow dress with an extra long train made by Guo Pei that she found online. “I was searching Chinese couture on the Internet and I found it,” she told Vanity Fair.
2017: Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between
Fresh off ANTI’s success, Rihanna turned heads once again at the Met Gala. Fitting for this theme, Bad Gal wore an elaborate Comme des Garçons piece from Fall 2016 that blended beautiful red, pink, and blue hues to go along with a pair of bright red heels.
