Bad Meets Evil returns. Royce da 5’9″ and Eminem reunite in the video for “Caterpillar.” In the mostly black-and-white clip, directed by Syndrome, the Detroit MCs go back and forth trading rapid-fire rhymes, while King Green provides the hook.
“The basic theme of the song is, ‘Don’t disrespect the caterpillar to praise the butterfly,'” Royce recently told Rap-Up. “Marshall falls a little bit more into that category than I do, but both of us are caterpillars. A lot of times, you’ll praise these guys but gotta tear us down…But where do you think his style came from?”
A remix to “Caterpillar” featuring Logic will be included as a bonus track on Royce’s seventh solo album Book of Ryan, which drops at midnight. “He’s spitting that brutal honesty and he spit for like 50-something bars,” revealed Royce. “It’s one of those shut-the-internet-down-for-a-couple-of-days verses for sure. I’m proud of him for that one.”
In addition to Eminem and Logic, Book of Ryan also includes appearances from J. Cole (“Boblo Boat“), Pusha T, Fabolous, Jadakiss, T-Pain, and Boogie.
“I just want the fans to hear my evolution as an artist as well as me as a man and learn from my mistakes,” said Royce. “I think they got a little bit of that with Layers, but Book of Ryan is me letting it all out.”
