Eminem pulls back the curtains. Slim Shady has revealed a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the video for “River,” the latest single off last year’s Revival.
Director Emil Nava opens up about the process throughout the short clip, breaking down how he got involved and what he wanted to achieve.
“They were very clear,” he says. “They wanted to do something Em hadn’t done before. I thought, imagine if you made a documentary about the meaning of the song and almost blurred the lines between imaginary and fiction.”
Eminem’s jovial personality is all over the clip, as he jokes with the cameramen and his co-star, actress/model Sarati. At one point, Marshall Mathers laughs hysterically.
When asked what she did to make him laugh, Sarati responded: “I told the stupidest joke… this joke to be exact – What has 75 balls and screws old women? Bingo.”
Nava, who’s directed several Ed Sheeran videos, said that the British crooner filmed his scenes overseas. The director then went on to praise Slim Shady for the way he handled the clip, as well.
“Working with him has been so special,” added Nava. “His dedication and his passion and his vision to get it perfect is amazing.”
