After breaking out with the viral single “ICY GRL,” Bay Area rapper and social media star Saweetie unleashes the video for her “ANTI” freestyle, premiering today via Rap-Up.
Directed by Bana Bongolan and Soben Phy, the grainy, VHS-style visual finds Warner Bros.’ newest signee and her Icy crew at the Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale, Calif. While they enjoy a girls’ night out, dancing and laughing on the street, Saweetie raps about loyalty over SOB x RBE’s “Anti” instrumental.
“Been a real life, never been a make-believe,” she raps. “And I’m stickin’ with my squad, to the top is where we be / New bitches trying to grab lunch, nah, that ain’t for me / You ain’t starve with me, ni**a, so why be there when I eat?”
“I had such a great time filming my ‘ANTI’ freestyle video with my girls,” Saweetie tells Rap-Up. “They’re the Icy crew, they represent what an Icy Grl means so well.”
Saweetie, who studied communications and business at San Diego State and USC, met her team in college. “It’s dope to see them blossom into independent-business savvy women,” she added. “They’ve always been so supportive.”
On March 16, the burgeoning rap star will release her High Maintenance EP. The project is set to feature production from Cash Money AP and her cousin Zaytoven. That same day, she will reveal the video for her next single, “B.AN.” via Spotify.
“#HighMaintenance is my baby & you all get to experience this body of work March 16th,” she wrote on Instagram. “My team & I worked so hard on this!!!!”
