Calling all hearts. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Ne-Yo keeps the romance alive on his new single “Good Man.”
Over a familiar sample of D’Angelo’s Voodoo classic “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” the R&B crooner vows to be a perfect gentleman to his lady. “I just wanna be a good man to ya, girl,” he sings. “That’s all I want to be, baby / I just wanna pick the phone up every single time you call / It doesn’t matter where I’m at / I wanna be chillin’ with Obama, talkin’ business / See you callin’, tell him, ‘Hold up, I gotta take this.'”
Produced by Camper (Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey), “Good Man” serves as the title track off Ne-Yo’s upcoming album. The R&B crooner, who is currently expecting his second child with Crystal Smith, also opened up about his first album since 2015’s Non-Fiction.
“This album focuses on the journey of what it is to be a good man: a good man to your spouse, a good brother to your brother, a good person to the world,” he explained. “I am not proclaiming to be perfect. A good man makes mistakes, learns from those mistakes, therefore to not then repeat those mistakes. Being a good man is a journey.”
