Kevin Gates is a free man. The Baton Rouge rapper was released from prison on Wednesday (Jan. 10) after serving nine months of a 30-month sentence for a weapons-related warrant.
As part of his new parole provisions, Gates will be under mandatory supervision and he is being restricted from possessing any firearms, according to TMZ. No outstanding warrants were discovered upon his release.
This marks a new phase in Gates’ ongoing legal drama. Last year, he was set to be released from custody after serving time for kicking a female fan in the chest at one of his concerts. However, an outstanding weapons-related warrant was uncovered upon his release and he was sent back behind bars.
Gates, who released By Any Means 2 while in prison, now plans on working with at-risk youth, according to his lawyer. The rapper has vowed to speak with troubled teens at various organizations in an effort to help them avoid the legal troubles that have burdened his life.
Upon Gates’ release, the rapper posted a cryptic message on social media. It’s a solid black image with the words “I’m Him” written at the center. Some speculate that this could be an album or single teaser.
