Just as SZA was turning 27 on Wednesday (Nov. 8), the TDE songstress received a platinum birthday gift. “The Weekend” — a song off her debut Ctrl — earned a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
“YO YALL TOOK A SONG THT WASNT A FUCKING SINGLE AND MADE IT PLATINUM!!!??” tweeted SZA. “AHH I LOVE U MORE THAN CHEESE! THANK U 4 THE BEST BDAY GIFT EVER.”
Prior to this, the Travis Scott-assisted “Love Galore” earned her first platinum certification from the RIAA. “The Weekend” and “Love Galore” appear on the gold-certified Ctrl. A deluxe version of the album is expected to arrive soon.
SZA’s next single off Ctrl will likely be “Doves in the Wind,” which features Kendrick Lamar. Last month, director Nabil posted a photo of the duo in the desert with two dove emojis, likely signifying that he directed the visual.
