Young, acclaimed, and platinum. Just seven months after releasing his debut album, Khalid’s American Teen has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The R&B crooner took to Twitter to celebrate the major milestone. “Earlier this year, I told myself that March 3rd was going to be the day to change my life,” he wrote. “7 months later, American Teen is Platinum.”
That’s not all. Just as American Teen surpassed the million sales marker, so did his singles, “Location” and “Young Dumb & Broke,” earning him three platinum plaques.
In honor of the new certifications, Khalid hit “The Late Show” stage on Tuesday (Oct. 24). Backed by a live band and screens filled with lockers, the soulful crooner performed “Young Dumb & Broke,” giving fans a tease at his spring 2018 tour.
Khalid’s voice has been all over the Billboard charts this year. Aside from his aforementioned solo work, he is also featured on Logic and Alessia Cara’s “1-800-273-8255,” which is No. 3 on the Hot 100, and Marshmello’s “Silence,” which is No. 44.
