Frank Ocean has come out victorious in the defamation lawsuit that his father, Calvin Cooksey, filed against him.
Cooksey claimed that his son defamed him in an open letter, in which the Blonde singer claimed that his father called a transgender waitress “a fa**ot” at one point in his life.
However, a judge has ruled in Ocean’s favor, saying that Cooksey failed to provide proof of defamation, according to TMZ.
“It was a sad case, but we are glad that it ended in Frank’s favor and that it is over,” said Ocean’s attorney.
Cooksey originally sued Ocean for $14.5 million. Frank initially responded by asking the judge to dismiss the lawsuit and that his father cover his legal fees.
The post in question was an open letter on Tumblr about the tragic Orlando shooting that took place last year. “I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a fa**ot as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn’t be served because she was dirty,” Ocean wrote in the post. “That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn’t shock me if it wasn’t.”
