21 Savage takes on current events in the politically-charged video for “Nothin New,” the latest single off Issa Album.
Starting with clips of Colin Kaepernick and LeBron James discussing President Donald Trump and President Barack Obama addressing the kneeling protests against police brutality, the iNightLyfe-directed visual finds Savage in the middle of a rain storm.
With his umbrella up, the Saint Laurent Don rhymes about the perils of street life, while the music video depicts some of the hardships in his lyrics through the eyes of a child, including drugs, guns, and, tragically, death.
“Shit is getting outrageous,” he raps. “Treat us like slaves and they lock us up in cages.” Meanwhile, the youth is gunned down by a police officer and buried at a funeral as rain pours down on a casket.
“Nothin New” is a single off Issa Album, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Next month, 21 is set to embark on his “Numb the Pain Tour,” which kicks off Nov. 16 in Austin.
