After making history with “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi B is ready to celebrate with a new freestyle.
During her Atlantic Records surprise party, where she was honored with a platinum plaque for her No. 1 single, Bardi shared her plans. “Since ya’ll helped me get to No. 1, I’m gonna drop a freestyle, a freestyle that I did with my whole entire cockroach heart ’cause my heart is very little, like a cockroach,” she told Billboard.
She also provided an update on her debut album, which was originally set for release next month. “I really wanted to release my second single with my album, but I’m just not as satisfied yet, to drop my album,” she added. “A lot of people keep telling me drop it. My dude [Migos’ Offset] keeps telling me to drop it. But it’s just not quite there yet. I was gonna release it in October, but I think I’m gonna do it in November.”
With “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi became the second solo female rapper to top the Hot 100 with an unaccompanied song. The first was Lauryn Hill, who did it with “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998. The achievement was celebrated by several of her peers and influences, including Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim, K. Michelle, Kehlani, and DeJ Loaf.
Up next, Bardi will join G-Eazy to perform their new collaboration “No Limit” on “The Tonight Show” this evening.
