On the heels of the heartbreaking “My Man,” Tamar Braxton serves up a perfect “Pick Me Up” with the latest single from her upcoming album, Bluebird of Happiness.
Over upbeat production, the R&B songstress delivers harmonies and lyrics that were no doubt inspired by her romance to husband Vincent Herbet, who also happened to executive produce her new album with Rodney Jerkins.
“You’re my little pick me up whenever I’m feeling down,” she sings. “Can’t hardly wait until I’m with you again / It’s more than typical because you are my best friend / They be saying we be doing too much, I ain’t complaining / Love spending time with you and boy, that’ll never change.”
There is finality to Bluebird, according to the soulful songstress. Taking to Instagram on Thursday (Sept. 14), she called it her “BEST & LAST” album, prompting talks of retirement. In June, she also discussed the project with Rap-Up, saying it is a combination of past work. “It’s almost like Love and War and Calling All Lovers got together and had a baby,” she explained.
Marking Braxton’s first official independent release since parting ways with Epic, Bluebird of Happiness is due Sept. 29. Get a weekend “Pick Me Up” below.
