Khalid and Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei are about to join forces on some new music. The American Teen crooner confirmed the news on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (Aug. 27).

Speaking with Billboard about their collaborative potential, Khalid said that they already have plans. “I’m excited,” he said. “We haven’t started yet, but we’ve gone over ideas. It’s gonna be great. Whatever happens, it’s gonna be amazing. She’s a beautiful person. She’s a great friend. I’m really excited to work with her.

“It’s collaborative on both ends,” he added. “We’re talking. We’re like, ‘What message should we make with this music?’ Whatever we do, it’s gonna be awesome.”

Just one week ago, Normani told Billboard why the respect is mutual. “Khalid is such an important artist and a great friend,” she said. “He has something unique and special that only he can offer creatively. Excited to see what lies ahead when we connect in the studio.”

Fans may recall that Normani also appeared in the video for Khalid’s “Young Dumb & Broke,” which dropped earlier this month.

Khalid’s debut album American Teen is currently No. 4 on the Billboard 200, but he is already thinking about his next release.

“I definitely want to be more emotional, more vulnerable,” he explained. “I’ve learned so much about myself and what my friends are going through. Talking to my friends on this tour, I really want to express their feelings as well.”

Beyond speaking about his upcoming material, Khalid celebrated a major win at the MTV VMAs. The soulful singer walked home with the Best New Artist Moon Person, defeating contenders like Kodak Black, SZA, and Young M.A. Meanwhile, Normani won Best Pop Video as part of Fifth Harmony for their Gucci Mane collaboration, “Down.”
