Victor Mensa spreads his “Wings.”
Prepping for the release of his highly-anticipated debut album The Autobiography, the Chicago rapper takes flight with Pharrell Williams and Saul Williams on his new single.
With Skateboard P handling production and additional vocals, Victor reintroduces himself to the world on “Wings.” “I got so many issues, I should be my own publisher,” he raps. “The beat is my therapist, Skateboard, paint the picture / A portrait of the artist formerly known as Vic / I read the signs, I was close to overdose like Prince.”
After Mensa explores suicidal thoughts and self-doubt with vivid imagery and passionate delivery, Saul Williams adds vocals to the song’s poetic outro.
Last night, Mensa premiered the track live at Mack Sennett Studios, where he was joined by JAY-Z and Beyoncé during a special album showcase, which also included his manager Scooter Braun and No I.D., who executive produced The Autobiography.
“Vic is a very special talent,” said Hov during the event. “He can do everything. Sing well, rap well, he even engineers himself sometimes. He’s an incredible artist, like a once-in-a-lifetime artist.”
The Autobiography is due July 28.
