J. Cole is using his “4 Your Eyez Only Tour” to make a statement on the prison system, but he’s also using it to show off some special on-stage tricks for longtime fans.

During a portion of the show in Anaheim on Sunday (July 9), Jermaine stopped performing “Forbidden Fruit” off his 2013 album Born Sinner. When his DJ played the song backwards, it bled into “Neighbors,” leading many to wonder if the “Neighbors” beat was simply the “Forbidden Fruit” instrumental played in reverse.

According to Complex, the beats are not exactly in sync when “Forbidden Fruit” is played in reverse, but the songs are similar. The site claims that snares were removed from the cut and that the tempo was shifted. Nevertheless, fans have been excited about the concert revelation that had previously gone unheard.

“Forbidden Fruit” and “Neighbors” sample Ronnie Foster’s “Mystic Brew,” a track that was also famously sampled by A Tribe Called Quest for “Electric Relaxation.”

J. Cole kicked off his “4 Your Eyez Only” arena tour last week. It is set to continue through Aug. 20 with Bas, J.I.D., Ari Lennox, and Anderson .Paak on select dates.

Tickets are available now.
