It was a “full circle” moment when Sean “Diddy” Combs visited “The Wendy Williams Show” on Thursday (June 29).
While promoting his Apple Music documentary Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story, the hip-hop mogul squashed his long-standing beef with the talk show host and reflected on the Notorious B.I.G.’s tragic death 20 years ago.
“I always feel some sort of responsibility because I’m in this thing with him,” said Puff. “He’s my artist. He was supposed to go to London that night and I let him talk me into not going to London and staying in L.A. That’s something that bothered me throughout my life. Sometimes, you have to really go with the decision in your gut…That’s one of the things I regret, not making sure that he went to London.”
Urging Williams to ask him anything, Diddy was also candid about his personal relationships. Explaining that his children and their mothers are taken care of, he discussed his love for longtime girlfriend Cassie.
“I’m in love now,” he gushed. “When a record comes on, the way she moves. When I look at her, the way she smiles. The way I see her look at me sometimes, when I wake up and she’s already awake.”
This was a major moment for Diddy and Wendy, following almost two decades of a reported feud. But the interview started with a hug and a kiss, marking a moment of peace. “I know I’ve pissed a lot of people off, including you,” said Williams. “But this is a full circle moment.”
In 1998, it was rumored that Puff was involved in her departure from Hot 97, after she made allegations regarding his sexuality. “Did Puffy have a hand in it?” she told New York magazine in 2011. “It is my belief.”
In her book The Wendy Williams Experience, she said that she maintained “a certain level of contempt for Puff” because he “single-handedly tried to ruin” her career. “The hell he put me through,” she added, “I will never forget. But I don’t hate him.”
At the time, she also doubted an interview like this would take place. “The only kind of acknowledgement that I would accept would be, ‘I’m coming by to see you on your show,'” she added. “I would love to interview Puffy. But it isn’t a goal of mine. I set reasonable goals for myself…Interviewing Puffy isn’t very reasonable because it doesn’t depend solely on me. So if it happens, great.”
