Macklemore is back like he never left, but this time, as a solo artist. Joined by Skylar Grey, the Seattle MC unleashes the first single from his upcoming album, the feel-good anthem “Glorious.”
Over triumphant production by Budo and Tyler Dopps, the “Same Love” star rhymes about his resilience, his dreams, and his lack of sleep, before claiming to have legendary status.
“Legend,” he raps. “It’s exodus searching for euphoria / Trudging through the mud to find the present, no ignoring us / Got 20,000 deep off in the street like we some Warriors / My mama told me never bow your head.”
Matching Mack’s aspirational rhymes, Skylar offers some of her own. “I feel glorious, glorious,” she sings. “Got a chance to start again / I was born for this, born for this / It’s who I am, how could I forget?”
Following November’s “Wednesday Morning,” “Glorious” arrives more than a year after Macklemore & Ryan Lewis released their sophomore album, This Unruly Mess I’ve Made.
In a statement to fans, Macklemore announced that he’s amicably parted ways with Ryan Lewis for the time being and that both of them will release solo projects soon.
