Jaden Smith is Bruce Wayne in the video for his new single “Batman.”
Acting as the reluctant hero, the 18-year-old rapper-actor speaks to Alfred and shuts down reporters who want to know if he really is the Dark Knight. Sporting his famous white bat suit — which he wore to prom and KimYe’s wedding — Smith then embarks on a night of crime fighting.
Shot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jaden dukes it out with another Batman, this one wearing a traditional black and yellow suit. After battling Superman and dancing with Spider-Man, Smith walks into the dark night as a lonely superhero.
The video also has some subtle Odd Future connections. At one point, Frank Ocean’s Boys Don’t Cry magazine is shown on a table. In other scenes, Tyler, the Creator drives Jaden’s Tesla.
Jaden’s love for Batman has long been documented. On Saturday (June 10), Smith was one of many mourning the loss of Adam West, who played the Dark Knight in “Batman” throughout the 1960s.
Inspired by Drake and Future’s “Jumpman,” “Batman” is the latest single from Jaden following past releases like “Fallen.” The video was likely shot before May since Smith sports his dreadlocks, which he famously cut and wore as an accessory to the Met Gala.
Up next, Jaden stars in Life in a Year and is said to be working on his album Syre. A video for his next single “Watch Me” is also expected to arrive soon.
