In honor of Mother’s Day, two new All Eyez On Me previews have been released, showcasing the lifelong bond between Tupac Shakur and his mother, Afeni.
The first of those clips is a festive look at Christmas for a young ‘Pac. In the clip, Afeni (Danai Gurira) gifts him with a notebook. “That will get you a lot further than a basketball,” she tells him. “Thanks mama,” he replies. Of course, that advice turned out to be prophetic.

The second clip features a lovely conversation between ‘Pac (Demetrius Shipp Jr.) and his mother. “You always got it together,” he tells her. “I’m good. [Sekiwa] is good. I wouldn’t be the man I am without you.” A grateful Afeni responds. “Thank you,” she says. “Look at you. I’m so proud of you.”
Tupac’s bond with Afeni is one of the most storied mother-son relationships in hip-hop, most notably due to “Dear Mama” off 1995’s Me Against the World. The song chronicled 2Pac’s love for his mother, from her days as a single mother to her plight with drug addiction. Through it all, he remained grateful for her sacrifices and resilience. “There’s no way I can pay you back,” he raps on the track. “But my plan is to show you that I understand, you are appreciated.”
‘Pac was shot and killed in an unsolved crime in 1996. Afeni passed following a reported heart attack in May of last year.
The latest clip from All Eyez On Me follows a preview, which showed Tupac professing his love to Jada Pinkett. Starring Dominic L. Santana, Jamal Woolard, and Lauren Cohan, All Eyez On Me is due June 16, on what would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday.
