Hot off his Kendrick Lamar cover, Ne-Yo takes on Tupac. The R&B crooner pulls inspiration from the late great rapper for his newest release, “Earn Your Love.”
Over a melodic track that samples ‘Pac’s classic “I Get Around,” Ne-Yo harmonizes about a woman’s priceless nature and his willingness to work for authentic affection.
“Purchasing you would only make what I believe to be true untrue,” he sings. “I believe some things are beyond a price tag / You willing to give me your body for a nice bag / That makes my stomach hurt.”
Later, he adds: “Make me earn your love / Show you that I’m worthy of it / Let me prove that I’m worthy of it / Mr. Shakur said it best, when he said / ‘Hate to sound sleazy, but tease me / I don’t want it if it’s that easy.'”
Ne-Yo’s new album, his first since 2015’s Non-Fiction, is slated to arrive this year. Just last week, he dropped a remix to “HUMBLE.” and teamed up with Jallal on “Toss & Turn.”
