Shortly after Melanie Fiona remixed Kendrick Lamar’s “LOYALTY.,” Ne-Yo picks a different DAMN. banger to flip.
Over Mike WiLL Made-It’s potent drums, the R&B crooner takes a stab at rapping on his “HUMBLE.” revamp. Patterning his flow after K-Dot’s, Ne-Yo reflects on his career and his Grammy-winning triumphs.
“I remember wishing I could sit at the Grammys with Jay and Bey, and Rihanna and Chris / Be part of the clique,” he rhymes. “Second guess myself and all my shit like, ‘Do I really fit?’ / Three Grammys later, I guess I must be pretty good at this.”
But Ne-Yo doesn’t just celebrate his success. He also pulls no punches when rapping about an unidentified foe. “Who is this ni**a thinking that he fronting on Ne-Yo? / Get the fuck over yourself, check your ego / I didn’t change, I evolved, get it right / I wrote a song and it changed your whole life.
Earlier today, Ne-Yo joined Jallal on “Toss & Turn.” Meanwhile, Kendrick’s original “HUMBLE.” version is sitting at No. 3 on the Hot 100 after last week’s No. 1 placement.
